The designation of geographical origin of agricultural products in the European Union-a system of protection of regional agricultural products in the European Union, designed to protect the names of these products and ensure their authenticity. Applies to products manufactured in a particular area in a traditional way. EU legislation in this respect is modelled on the French system Appellation d'origine contrôlée and the Italian Denominazione di origine Controllata and is used since 1992.
